About Cemre Necefbas

Born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey, vocalist Cemre Necefbas grew up loving music and singing at every chance she got. Her interest in music quickly became more serious when she attended Robert College, where she joined the school orchestra singing R&B and Jazz. At only seventeen years old, Cemre received her first national recognition as a jazz vocalist, when she won 3rd place in the Nardis Young Jazz Voice Competition.

In 2013, Cemre moved to New York City upon receiving a scholarship to attend The New School. Since graduating with her dual degree in Jazz Voice and Contemporary Music, Cemre has been building an exciting career as a jazz singer and band-leader, while collaborating with musicians from across genres. She has performed at some of the hottest clubs both in New York (Club Bonafide, The Flatiron Room, Fine & Rare…) as well as Istanbul (Nardis Jazz Club, The Badau, Bova, Gregor Jazz Club…) and recently took the stage at the 33. Akbank Jazz Festival with jazz legend Senova Ulker with their collaborative project Tribute to Ella and Louis.

Whether in a duo setting, or fronting a large ensemble, Cemre is a master of creating exciting dynamics within her voice. "Music is like a blanket made of such delicate fabric" she says "and I want to weave myself into it with my voice."

Cemre is currently based in Istanbul, focusing on writing her original music, working on her septet project Cloud Seven, and leading multiple bands, as well as singing as side-woman with others.
